The place

The Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple is a stunning example of ancient Dravidian architecture, nestled at the base of the scenic Nandi Hills. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the complex dates back over a thousand years, with its origins traced to the 9th century — one of the oldest temples in Karnataka.

Exquisite carvings, intricate pillars, and elaborate sculptures reflect the craftsmanship of the successive dynasties that contributed to its construction, including the Cholas, Hoysalas, and Vijayanagara rulers. The complex comprises two main shrines: Bhoga Nandeeshwara, representing Shiva in his youthful form, and Arunachaleshwara, depicting him in a mature form. A third shrine dedicated to Uma Maheshwara symbolises the divine marriage of Shiva and Parvati.

Adding to the temple's charm are two large stepped water tanks, Shringi Tirtha and Vasanta Tirtha, believed to be sacred and often used for religious rituals. The tranquil ambiance, combined with the architectural grandeur, makes this a favourite of devotees, historians, and photographers alike.
